“Just Words?” Hope, Change and a New Era of Responsibility

Hope and Change come in a variety of forms.

HOPE:

Only Government can provide the short-term boost necessary to lift us from a recession this deep and severe…Only government can break the vicious cycles that are crippling our economy.”

“Our economy will take years to recover…not months”

“We are in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression”

CHANGE:

“Tom Daschle, tapped to be President Obama’s health czar, was paid more than $200,000 by the health-care industry in the past two years”

“During the vetting process to become HHS secretary, Daschle corrected the tax violation, voluntarily paying $101,943 in back taxes plus interest, working with his accountant to amend his tax returns for 2005 through 2007.”

“The Senate Finance Committee revealed this week that Geithner failed to pay some $43,000 in federal self-employment taxes for four separate years – and only coughed up $26,000 of that debt when he was named Obama’s Treasury Secretary-designate in November”

“‘President Obama promised during his campaign that lobbyists “won’t find a job in my White House.”
So far, though, at least a dozen former lobbyists have found top jobs in his administration, according to an analysis done by Republican sources and corroborated by Politico.’

“Obama’s transition team was given access to Bill Clinton’s finances and post-presidential dealings, sources said. As part of the early vetting process, the team looked for any negative information that could jeopardize the prospect of Hillary Clinton as secretary of state.  A particular issue of concern, observers said, was the donor list of Bill Clinton’s global foundation, which might show connections to international figures who push policies that could conflict with those of the new Obama administration.”

“President Obama listened to Republican gripes about his stimulus package during a meeting with congressional leaders Friday morning – but he also left no doubt about who’s in charge of these negotiations. “I won,” Obama noted matter-of-factly, according to sources familiar with the conversation.”

Refreshing isn’t it?

Obama, “Just words?”

While denouncing the $18 billion bonuses  of some Wall St. execs  Obama made it clear that the days of waste and excess are officially over.  As he continues to push another $1-$2 TRILLION bank bailout and the $819 BILLION “spendulus” package he guarantees that the America taxpayer will feel confident that their money will not be wasted on excess.

“We’ll ensure that CEOs are not draining funds that should be advancing our recovery,” Obama said in his weekly radio address this morning. “And we will insist on unprecedented transparency, rigorous oversight and clear accountability, so taxpayers know how their money is being spent and whether it is achieving results.” Story here.

Unfortunately, his words speak much louder than his actions.  From the Washington Post “In finalizing the plan, officials have made a policy decision that could dismay lawmakers. The administration is likely to refrain from imposing tougher restrictions on executive compensation at most firms receiving government aid but instead retain looser requirements initially included in the Treasury’s $700 billion rescue program, a source familiar with the deliberations said. Officials are concerned that harsh limits could discourage some firms from asking for aid. (italics mine).

While the empty rhetoric is dismaying, to be sure, its the final line in the report from the Washington Post that is most alarming.

“Officials are concerned that harsh limits could discourage some firms from asking for aid.” This is the most revealing line about the true agenda of the Obama administration: to take government control of as many institutions as possible in the shortest amount of time as possible all the while using this crisis as their Trojan Horse to get away with it under the guise of salvaging the American economy.

Shouldn’t the government be a little more responsible with YOUR money and not HOPE that as many companies as possible come crawling to the government for a handout? They should be asking companies to do WHATEVER they can to avoid asking for taxpayer money to pay for their bad business practices.  The responsible thing to do would be to LIMIT the number of corporations that are now beholden to the taxpayer and more specifically the government.

Not insisting on compensation limitations for bailed out companies with the hopes of attracting more and more poorly run companies to come feed off the teet of the American Taxpayer would be the RESPONSIBLE thing to do.  This, well, this is just shameful!

Shameful and Irresponsible…ANOTHER $150,000,000 junket

President Barack Obama says it is irresponsible and shameful for Wall Street bankers to take a $150 million junket at a time when the American public is dealing with economic hardship…indeed the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.  The president said he and new Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner will have direct conversations with corporate leaders to make the point.  Obama said there is a time for corporate leaders to make profits and celebrate but now is ‘not that time.’”

Strong words and a strong message by Obama which follow through with his promise of a “new era of responsibility” in Washington.

Unfortunately, the $150,000,000 junket wasn’t that of corporate CEOs it was his very own inauguration now less than two weeks ago yet somehow so far removed from the mind of Obama, his administration, and apparently the American public.

I must agree with Obama though, it really is shameful and irresponsible to throw yourself a $150 million party especially when it’s “yes, WE can” not “I won.”

Quick Hit

Obama’s Foreign Policy Failure

US President Barack Obama’s offer to talk to Iran  shows that America’s policy of “domination” has failed, the government spokesman said on Saturday. ‘This request means Western ideology has become passive, that capitalist thought and the system of domination have failed,’ Gholam Hossein Elham was quoted as saying by the Mehr news agency.” Full story.

Within one week of taking office Obama has successfully made it clear to Iran that the United States is now less of threat to thwart their nuclear ambitions.  Iran doesn’t carry on with the hopes of “negotiating” with the United States to achieve so some sort of mutually beneficial end.  Their goals and desires, to wipe Israel off the map and to live in a world without America, are clearly stated and should be taken as real and credible threats to the United States.

Obama, by showing willingness, if not eagerness, to have direct talks with Iran legitimizes their dangerously negative behaviors and gives credence to their support of terror against the United States and our allies.  Will Iran be more or less brazen towards UN sanctions and threats by the United States now that Obama has conceded to their will? I don’t think so Tim.

The Isolated States of America

With the Dems pushing hard for the “spendulus” package what many people might not know is that there is a “buy American” clause all wrapped up in the pork.   Pointed mainly at the infrastructure projects the stipulation aims to keep American dollars in America.  That sounds nice doesn’t it?

And it probably would be nice if other countries didn’t take our lead and institute the same type of foreign purchasing ban as the Democrats want the United States to.  Do we really want to stop selling our goods to foreign nations? How will that help stimulate the economy?

The world we live in and our fellow countries’ economies are so vastly intertwined that we all DEPEND on each other.  When something goes wrong for America it gets bad for everyone.  So to discourage free trade between nations who can help one another is simply ridiculous.  Now is the time for the worlds economic powers to work TOGETHER not to isolate themselves and pretend their pain and successes aren’t equally shared.

Actually, what’s really irresponsible and shameful…

When learning that Wall St. execs got paid over $18 billion in bonuses last year Obama called it “the height of irresponsibilty” and “shameful.”

Actually, Barry, what is shameful and irresponsible is TAKING money from tax payers and GIVING it to these failed companies without any accounting of where the money went.  $700 billion dollars and at least half is basically unaccounted for.  THAT is irresponsible and shameful.  Leaving trillion dollar deficits to future generations is also quiet shameful and irresponsible.

TARP 2

What? Another bank bail-out? You heard that right.

Apparently $700 billion wasn’t enough. An additional $825 billion isn’t enough.  And now plans for another $1-2 TRILLION dollar bail out is in the works.  “On Thursday, news came out that Treasury officials are planning a second bank bailout — one that could cost another $1 to $2 trillion.”

What can you even say to all this? I am speechless…

really really really BIG government

And his desire to control every aspect of the private sector continues…

From AP: “President Barack Obama says it is irresponsible and shameful for Wall Street bankers to be paid huge bonuses at a time when the American public is dealing with economic hardship. The president reacted harshly Thursday to reports that corporate employees got paid more than $18 billion in bonuses last year.  Said Obama: “That is the height of irresponsibility. It is shameful.”  The president said he and new Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner will have direct conversations with corporate leaders to make the point.  Obama said there is a time for corporate leaders to make profits and get paid bonuses but now is “not that time.”‘

So its ’shameful’ when people “make profits” and “get paid bonuses” but its not shameful to avoid paying taxes even though you pocketed the money given to you to pay those taxes.

I have an idea, why not just tax those CEOs more and take the money yourself.  Wait, Obama already thought of that.  This is so f*#^ed up!

Crisis or Opportunity?

I have often referred to the Obama “stimulus” package as a Trojan Horse; a means by which the progressives, now in power in Washington, can reshape America into the Socialist Paradise they have been longing for.

Here is a little more proof.  Obama’s Chief of Staff Ramn Emanuel holds that he would, “never let a serious crisis go to waste. What I mean by that is its an opportunity to do things you couldn’t do before.” That’s one way to look at an economic crisis that has added nearly 50% to unemployment.

Here’s another.  “The road to Copenhagen (in reference to climate change) is now very clear. It starts with the passage of President Barack Obama’s stimulus bill in its entirety. And then, secondly, we need to put a price on carbon by passing cap and trade legislation,” Gore said Tuesday in an interview with The Associated Press. “In other words, this crisis is an opportunity.”

Its always reassuring to know that the government has YOUR best interests in mind…not theirs.
